Kamada Soy is a soy sauce company based in Kagawa Japan. It produces different flavours of soy sauces with dashi. I worked on re-branding and design for their main 40-page catalogue for 2013. The brief was to create a new logo using the five colours of each pack. The previous year’s catalogue was seen as too industrial, so I was asked to break up the layout with graphical elements. Given the 400,000 print run, I also needed to think about the budget, and suggested using new print techniques and reducing the format.
I created the logo using lines and the five key colours from the five packs’ flat colour logos. I designed the layout using vertical type and horizontal writing to break up the hard structured layout and to give graphical rhythm. As there are 25 different products, I suggested making an index page with categories delineated by the five key colours. For the main product section, I suggested using a folding system to organise the information. I was able to create this catalogue for much cheaper than their budget.
